The effects of the constant struggle within Vietnam over many years had left the country ravaged and obviously there were problems which meant the country was not running efficiently.
The regime that was now in place to run Vietnam put together a strategy which would pull together all of Vietnam’s remaining assets. By doing this more problems were created, the consequence of this further damaged the economy.
With the country in ruins people started to flee in whichever way they could, this was described as a ‘humanitarian crisis’. With a very shaky Vietnam trying to get on its feet there followed more conflicts with surrounding countries who were attempting to invade the small villages on the outskirts of Vietnam.
These surrounding countries probably saw Vietnam as weak and thought because of this it was a good time to attack.
In 1986 Vietnam finally saw a change that would finally free them of a poor economy and conflict. It was in the form of a new leadership being appointed. The leadership was best described as reformers with a leader by the name of Nguyen Van Linh. Under this new leader and the reformers Vietnam saw a very rapid economic growth, production and exports really took off.
